Robert E. Wailes, MD
Founder and Medical Director

Dr. Wailes did his undergraduate work at U.C. Berkeley then attended medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. After finishing his postgraduate training in Anesthesiology and Pain Management at U.C. San Diego, he started his private practice in north San Diego County in 1984.

He is board certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology with added Qualifications in Pain Management. He is a diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management. He is also a certified Qualified Medical Examiner for the California Worker compensation System. He also works as a Medical Reviewer for the Medical Board of California as an Expert in Pain Management.

Dr. Wailes is an active member of the medical staffs at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas and at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside. He also is a Trustee for the California Medical Association, representing San Diego County and Secretary for the San Diego County Medical Society.

He has lived with his family in Carlsbad since starting his practice in 1984.

Jason M. Miller, MD

Dr. Miller did his medical school and his Anesthesiology residency at UC Irvine Medical Center. He distinguished himself by wining local and national accolades for his work on the effects of inhaled anesthetics on memory. He then completed a multidisciplinary fellowship in Pain Management at UC Davis Medical Center. After completion of his training, he was recruited back to UCI to serve as Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Pain Medicine. After ground-breaking work in novel techniques of pain control, Dr. Miller decided to leave the university to more actively develop pain control techniques in a private practice setting. He brings great academic and practical experience to the team of providers at PPMC.

Karen M. Brown, PA-C

Karen is a graduate of Midwestern University with a degree in Medical Science and Physician Assistant Studies.  Her post-graduate education includes medical and surgical training in multiple sub-specialties.  After becoming board certified, she went on to specialize in orthopedic and spine surgery for several years before coming into pain medicine. She brings to our practice experience in comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluation and treatments including specialized office procedures and injections.

Jeremy A. Adler, MS, PA-C

Mr. Adler holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, San Diego. He then earned a master’s degree with specialty recognition in pain management and physical medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Subsequently he has been practicing in the specialty of pain management since getting his PA certification and graduating summa cum laude from the State University of New York, Stony Brook in 1999.

Mr. Adler is currently a Credentialed Pain Practitioner after completing a board examination with the American Academy of Pain Management. He is also a Pain Awareness Ambassador with the National Pain Foundation. Mr. Adler frequently lectures about at both local and national professional meetings. In addition, Mr. Adler is a committee member on the joint American Pain Society and American Academy of Pain Medicine guidelines project titled “Opioids for Chronic Non-cancer Pain.” Outside of pain management, Mr. Adler founded the San Diego Society of Physician Assistants and functions as the society’s president. He also serves as the San Diego Group Leader for the California Academy of Physician Assistants.

He also serves as a consultant to industry as well as provides expert witness testimony. Mr. Adler has been included in the Who’s who in America and Who’s who in Medicine and Healthcare.

Michael E Davis- PA-C

Mike Davis graduated from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California with a bachelor of science in biology. He then went on to work in pre-clinical research focusing on the fields of cardiac stents and transplant immunology. While he enjoyed the research component of medicine, he quickly realized that he was better suited to work face to face in patient care. Therefore he returned to school, and graduated magna cum laude from the College of D’Youville in Buffalo, New York with a degree in Physician Assistant studies. He then returned home to San Diego and began his career in family practice. However he transitioned to pain medicine shortly after, and has enjoyed assisting patients reduce their pain and increase their function ever since.
